This project analyses the electric energy consumption pattern in the NDMC’s territory
and determines the scope for economically and financially attractive options for increasing the energy efficiency of the system. Three locations were closely examined in terms of their
energy use patterns, namely the “Palika Kendra” building (see picture on right), the All India Institute for Medical Sciences Complex and the Conaught Place area.
THE PROJECT OBJECTIVE IS TO ASSIST NDMC IN:
Assessing the energy consumption pattern in the NDMC area;
Specifically examining energy saving options, such as:
- High efficiency lighting
- Cooling and air conditioning
- Street lighting
- Traffic lights
- Water pumping
- Possible load management options for very large consumers
- Power factor correction
- Building systems
Developing pilot programs for the implementation of some of the most desirable options.
In addition to being directly beneficial to NDMC, this project is expected to provide an excellent opportunity for demonstrating and showcasing energy efficiency and DSM options of interest for India as a whole. As NDMC is responsible for the national capital region, it provides an excellent potential to showcase useful models that can be replicated in other jurisdictions. Also the CSC has an interest in transferring the knowledge and experience gained in this project to other member countries.
This project is funded by the Commonwealth Science Council (CSC) and Policy Research International.
